Having learned a lot about WW2 weapons we continued to the coast of France near Dunkirk and stopped at Gravelines at the mouth of the river Aa. In the 1100s a canal was built to connect Saint-Omer with the sea and this site became a fortified citadel enclosed by a ring of ramparts and a tidal moat.
